Sarah Attar, one of two first Saudi badass Olympians. |
This is the first Olympics where there is a female competitor from EVERY COUNTRY and that's a reason enough for me to watch it. It made me wish that my parents had forced me into committing to sports even though I was a quitter and exceptionally inflexible.
I also noticed how misogynist the Olympics were and how much criticism and offensive, purely sexist comments women athletes receive because oh you know... They're women and it's not that easy to look past their vaginas, right?
Destinee Hooker, women's US indoor volleyball. Werk it! |
Faye Sultan, Kuwait's first female swimmer. You go, girl! |
Zoe Smith, 18 year old British weightlifter + my queen! |
Can we just not sit and reduce these beautiful, smart, talented, incredibly strong women to nothing but something that does not please you aesthetically and curse them for not matching your own personal preferences? Can we just thoroughly respect and admire their dedication and abilities.
I was so amazed and blown away watching the women weightlifting competitors and wondered what there was out there in the world that I would be willing to work as hard for as they do, and it's... NOTHING, unless the internet becomes an Olympic sport or something.
